Vista Optimization

Most people's main objection to Vista is that it is so slow no matter how fast your system's processor is or how much RAM it has.

What I change:

  1. Turn Gadgets OFF
  2. Set Control Panel to Classic View
  3. Turn OFF Transparency (START, Control Panel, Personalize, Windows Color and appearance, Uncheck “Enable transparency.”
  4. Don’t hide “inactive” icons – keep them to remind you of how much is running at each start up. (Right click Start, Choose "Properties" and “Notification area” tab, Uncheck “Hide inactive icons.”
  5. Read the article on www.PCTUNEUPTips.com – technical speed up tips like NOT indexing constantly, turning off remote differential compression, automatic defrag, auto hibernate, etc.
  6. Turn off User Acct Control (Control Panel, User Accts, Turn User Account Control on or off)
  7. Adjust for PERFORMANCE over Appearance. (Right Click “COMPUTER” properties, Advanced system settings, Performance SETTINGS button)
  8. Windows Defender – use Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot v 1.5 for spyware protection. Use AVG or AVAST anti-virus. Use a router for a firewall.
  9. Turn off SERVICES (Click START button, type services.msc) Example: Windows Defender, Tablet Input Services, Windows Meeting Space) – note “delayed start”
