Vista Optimization
Most people's main objection to Vista is that it is so slow no matter how fast your system's processor is or how much RAM it has.
What I change:
- Turn Gadgets OFF
- Set Control Panel to Classic View
- Turn OFF Transparency (START, Control Panel, Personalize, Windows Color and appearance, Uncheck “Enable transparency.”
- Don’t hide “inactive” icons – keep them to remind you of how much is running at each start up. (Right click Start, Choose "Properties" and “Notification area” tab, Uncheck “Hide inactive icons.”
- Read the article on www.PCTUNEUPTips.com – technical speed up tips like NOT indexing constantly, turning off remote differential compression, automatic defrag, auto hibernate, etc.
- Turn off User Acct Control (Control Panel, User Accts, Turn User Account Control on or off)
- Adjust for PERFORMANCE over Appearance. (Right Click “COMPUTER” properties, Advanced system settings, Performance SETTINGS button)
- Windows Defender – use Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot v 1.5 for spyware protection. Use AVG or AVAST anti-virus. Use a router for a firewall.
- Turn off SERVICES (Click START button, type services.msc) Example: Windows Defender, Tablet Input Services, Windows Meeting Space) – note “delayed start”
